چکیده

With the aim of obtaining new compounds with potential antifungal activity, lecanoric acid, a chemical constituent of the lichen Parmotrema tinctorum and its derivatives prepared from structural modification were tested against the fungus Cladosporium sphaerospermum, by employing the bioautographic method. Activity of the derivatives ranged from 10to 1-μg concentrations. Results demonstrated this series of compounds to have potent fungitoxic activity. The search for new substances with antifungal activity has received increased attention over the past years, since few antifungal agents, and of limited action, are available for the treatment of systemic mycoses. Many compounds isolated from lichens have been effective in inhibiting growth of fungi and bacteria. In order to obtain compounds with potential activity against fungi, some derivatives of lecanoric acid (1), the main component of the lichen Parmotrema tinctorum, were prepared.

The series of 2,4-dihydroxy-6-methylbenzoates 2-10 (methyl to hexyl orsellinates) prepared by alcoholysis of lecanoric acid (1)--a natural product from the lichen Parmotrema tinctorum (Nyl.) Hale - was submitted to the brine shrimp lethality test (BST), which was also performed for 2,4-dihydroxy-6-methylbenzoic acid (11) (orsellinic acid) and the derivative ethyl-2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-6-methylben...

Phenolic constituents from the lichen Parmotrema stuppeum (Nyl.) Hale and their antioxidant activity.

Lichen, Parmotrema stuppeum (P. stuppeum) was successively extracted with benzene and acetone. Both the extracts were fractionated on 1% oxalic acid impregnated silica gel column to obtain four phenolic compounds. The structures of compounds were identified by 1H and 13C NMR spectra as methyl orsenillate, orsenillic acid, atranorin and lecanoric acid respectively. Antioxidant activity of benzen...

Antioxidant activities of lichen metabolites developed in vitro

The crude extract contains many compounds along with the various lichen metabolites and it is very difficult to say which compound(s) has the antioxidant potential unless and until it is purified. In the previous Chapter 3 & 4 the biological activities of Usnea ghattensis attributed to the crude extract containing usnic acid and norstictic acid have been presented. In order to know the antioxid...

The Lichen Genus Parmotrema in South Korea

Parmotrema A. Massal. is a common lichen genus scattered throughout the Korean Peninsula; however, no detailed taxonomic or revisionary study of this genus has been conducted for nearly two decades. Therefore, this study revised the taxonomy of this genus based on specimens deposited in the lichen herbarium at the Korean Lichen Research Institute and samples wereidentified using recent literatu...

In vitro antitumour activity of orsellinates.

Lichen phenolic compounds exhibit antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiproliferative, and cytotoxic activities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anticancer activity of lecanoric acid, a secondary metabolite of the lichen Parmotrema tinctorum, and its derivatives, orsellinates, obtained by structural modification. A cytotoxicity assay was carried out in vitro with sulforhodamine B (SRB) ...
